Dimas De Leon, the owner and promoter of South Texas Fighting Championship, has been indicted for cocaine distribution.
Although this happened on March 24th, the story has surfaced due to a criminal complaint lodged April 5th. It is suspected that De Leon was part of a large drug trafficking organization which includes police officers who were paid to steal drugs from other drug gangs and pass them on to De Leon’s gang.
At this time, it is thought that one police officer from Edcouch, Texas has been arrested for his role in the fake drug seizures by police.
A McAllen, Texas police statement reads:
“(De Leon was) responsible for distributing narcotics that the organization had stolen from various sources of supply.”
South Texas Fighting Championship stages MMA and boxing events. There has been no update regarding the promotion’s next event, scheduled for April 23 and featuring Juan Manuel Marquez in a guest capacity.
Thus far, we are unaware of any fighters or trainers related to the promotion that are being implicated in the trafficking ring.
