Watch Video Of Conor McGregor Sparring With Ex-Boxing Champion

As his recent social media posts suggest, Conor McGregor is taking his boxing seriously.

First he posted a photo of his boxing boots:

Then retweeted a post from a former Olympic medalist who is co-owner of the L.A. gym he’s working out at:

Then of course, Tony Jeffries gave McGregor props for being at his gym:

And even before sparring with Tony Jeffries, McGregor has been sparring with a rather more serious pro boxer since last week.

South African Chris van Heerden is a former IBO Welterweight champion. Even though van Heerden may not the caliber of current welterweight stars like Kell Brook, Keith Thurman, Danny Garcia and Shawn Porter, he is legit. His biggest win was probably against Matthew Hatton (not Ricky), while his lone loss came at the hands of Errol Spence.

Because of his background, van Heerden may be a good judge of McGregor’s boxing skills and here’s what he thinks:

Just more props for McGregor?

Now a video of the two sparring together has surfaced and it looks as if McGregor is really dead serious about boxing. Now, don’t get us wrong. We’re not starting with the Floyd Mayweather fight rumor up again. What we’re saying is this: van Heerden, like Mayweather, is a welterweight. But if you take a look at van Heerden closely, his frame resembles a potential McGregor foe not named Mayweather.

Mayweather is 5-8 while van Heerden is 5-11. Mayweather is an orthodox fighter while van Heerden is a southpaw. If McGregor is preparing for Mayweather, then why spar with a much taller guy who doesn’t have Mayweather’s natural stance? On the other hand, Nate Diaz is 6-0 and a southpaw. Doesn’t Diaz have mad boxing skills himself?

McGregor was supposed to fight Diaz at UFC 200 but he didn’t want to show up for a promotional duties because he said he was preparing hard for his rematch against the much bigger Diaz.  Latest rumors have linked the McGregor vs Diaz rematch to UFC 202, which is expected to be in August. Didn’t Dana White say recently that he and McGregor are now on “good terms”? And didn’t White firmly say that the Mayweather bout is “impossible”?
