The Korean Zombie Announces Return to the UFC After Three Year Absence

Ready for the eniTrain to Busan? The Korean Zombie is back.

Former title challenger and WEC veteran Chan Sung Jung is ready to return to the Octagon. The fighter known as the “Korean Zombie” announced on Facebook that he is preparing to return to the UFC after three years of absence:

This early, the Zombie has already set his eyes on a preferred opponent. Said Chan:

“For the past six months, there’s a fighter that I’ve been wanting to fight: B.J. Penn. When the B.J. Penn (vs. Ricardo) Lamas fight was announced, I thought I missed my chance. But, then I heard that B.J. Penn had a rib injury, so I kind of felt like maybe it was an opportunity for me. It would be great timing if B.J. Penn and I were ready to come back at the same time.”

Penn recently pulled out of his UFC Fight Night Manila bout with Lamas, forcing the cancellation of the entire event. Prior to that, Penn also pulled out of two previous scheduled bouts due to different reasons. While Penn may not lead the Korean Zombie to the top of the rankings, he explained his reason for calling out the Prodigy:

“Since he was at lightweight before, I never really thought about fighting him that much. But when he came down to featherweight, I would think that all of the fighters in the division would have liked to fight him. I’m one of them. Since I’m making my comeback, and B.J. is going to be coming back as well, I’d really like a chance to fight him.”

Chan Sung Jung hasn’t fought since dislocating his shoulder during his UFC 163 title bout with Jose Aldo in August 2013. Known as one of the most exciting fighters in the featherweight division, Chan is known as the Korean Zombie for his amazing recovery skills and his super human ability to take punishment. After recovering from his injury in 2014, the Korean Zombie served the mandatory two years of military service required of all South Korean male citizens.

Added the Zombie:

“It seemed like a really long time. A lot of fans have told me that, and it feels like it was a really long time to me, too. Now that I’m back in the UFC, I’ll try to put on even more exciting fights that the fans can get really excited about.”

We sure are excited and we can’t wait to see Chan Sung Jung back again.
