Cruz and Garbrandt Square Off in Latest Verbal Squabble

There is no love lost between Dominick Cruz and Cody Garbrandt.

The UFC bantamweight titleholder and his next challenger have been going back and forth in a verbal war of words in recent months. The two are slated to face each other at the co-main event of UFC 207, which headlines Ronda Rousey’s comeback fight. And even with the fight still two weeks away, the beef between the two has become much meatier.

On Saturday, Cruz and Garbrandt were put in an all-familiar situation once again. Cruz was doing his usual color commentator job at Fox Sports and Garbrandt was a guest interviewee. That’s asking for fireworks, if you ask me. True indeed, the rivals spat out some spicy words against each other:

“Who have you ever beat?” asked Garbrandt.

“Your whole team,” answered Cruz. “I built a house beating your team.”

Cruz not only beat Team Alpha Male founder Urijah Faber twice, he also beat T.J. Dillashaw and Joseph Benavidez among others. In fact, Cruz has called Faber’s team as “Team Alpha Fail” for their inability to beat him. Garbrandt is the latest member of Team Alpha Male to get a crack at the Dominator and he believes his power is going to knock the lights off Cruz.

Garbrandt called out Cruz after beating Takeya Mizugaki in 48 seconds at UFC 202. No Love and the Dominator had a backstage confrontation that had to be broken up by security. Garbrandt called Cruz a “scared little bitch” during that encounter and Cruz has since engaged Garbrandt in a full-scale war of words and insults. On Saturday, Cruz’s took a shot at Garbrandt’s attire:

“You look like Pee Wee Herman with that tie on,” added Cruz.

“You better hope I don’t see you backstage again,” said Garbrandt.

“You talk a big game, but you’re gonna get pieced up, little boy,” replied Cruz.

Cruz has an impressive record of 6-1 against current or former Team Alpha Male members. His most recent win against a Team Alpha Male member was against Faber (who is also the only one to beat him) at UFC 199  and you can bet the champ is looking to add Garbrandt to his collection of wins against Team Alpha Male fighters.

Will Garbrandt be punching at a ghost at UFC 207 or will the unhittable Cruz finally meet his match in the young and powerful Garbrandt?
